Donation to NICU and KMC Unit of Korle Bu
The Jay Foundation Team on the 25th of January, 2019 donated the following items to the Neonatal Intensive Care and Kangaroo Mother Care units:
- 100 Cot sheets
- 10 Bedsheets and pillowcases
- 2 Wall clocks
- 10 Bottles of Antibacterial Handwash
- 8 big packs of Tissue Paper
- Baby Clothes
- Tins of Pediasure
- Stickers inscribed with NICU and KMC
- Food items (Rice, Beans, Milk, Yogurt, Eggs, Palmnut Friuts, Apples, Bananas and Nkontomire)
During our initial visits to the unit, the head nurse listed items they needed, some of which are listed above. They also needed the door lock of the nurses’ changing room fixed. We therefore came with a new door lock and a carpenter to fix the door.
We noticed that the mothers of the preterm babies drop their bags on the floor in the waiting area when visiting their babies so we have contracted a good carpenter to fix cabinets at the waiting area so the mothers can drop their belongings there.
We will also clean and disinfect the whole unit once a month.
All the above is to reduce the level of infection and increase the survival rate of these babies fighting for their lives.
We placed the sticker at the entrance of the unit for easy accessibility.
The food items were given to the mothers at the Kangaroo Units and the products from Fan Milk Ghana were given to over 40 mothers and hospital staff in the unit.
The list of items needed include Gallons of Savlon, White vinegar, washing machine with dryer, Frigde to store breast milk, Tissue, Curtains, air conditioners, Hand sanitizers, photolyte, Probes, Nasal prongs, boxes of Meronem (antibiotics for babies) monitors and accessories, Television to entertain and educate mothers and finally Funds to take care of prescriptions and test as well as hospital bills.
Donors and sponsors are warmly welcome and will be appreciated.
